![]() The impetus for delayed breakage may be a change in ambient temperature e.g. Small edge damage caused by glass hitting an object or resting on a load carried over the tailgateįor delayed breakage, the resultant failure may happen hours, weeks or even years later and for no apparent reason. ![]() Small surface damage caused by stone chips (typical of towing), driving with the door or lift window in the open position or glass hitting against a roof load Impact from an item stored inside the canopy Impact from unsecured loads, stones, vehicle accident… Glass breakage will occur when there is sufficient change in the surface tension of the tempered glass such as: Often it is the events leading up to the glass breakage which need to be understood. Each manufactured batch of glass is tested for conformance to the standard. The glass is designed to fracture into thousands of pieces to reduce the likelihood of injury. Like the vehicle glass, our canopy glass is tempered to provide for a “safe” failure should an incident occur. ![]() The ARB canopy glass conforms to the applicable International standard E43R. These specifications are typical of automotive glass such as that used in side and rear windows. Whilst most components are manufactured in-house, the glass is a procured item to our specifications. Could also just be because it's bolted to a Ford it's bound to fail :)ĪRB designs and manufactures the complete door/window sets for canopies. If you have blown out those expensive windows i'd be removing that tent and just using a swag or something. That is just under the 100KG load but unlike a stiff roof tent, each part has independent movement so the parts of the load can shift a bit without placing stress on the bracketing. I have the Ascent on a Toyota Hilux with a 20KG ARB "BASE" roof Rack and have loaded it with what I would consider the MAX I would carry: 2 x 20L diesel jerrys, King Swag, Single Swag and a box with 25KG of firewood plus some camp chairs. Sorry to say, the Ascent is not designed for a roof top tent. The MAX load on the Ascent canopy (dynamic) is 100KG assuming you have the required internal bracing kit to support the load however, if your tent is 100KG what is the weight of the roof rack also? Every bit counts and if you are off-roading, that 100KG load on tracks that throw you side to side would not be trusted, that is a highway travel limit (or bumpy dirt at best).
